Log file options

Set here the folder where the logger writes the log. If the Logger is unable to write into that folder (e.g. network is down), it writes into a local temporary location. As soon as the specified folder becomes accessible, the Logger moves there the files from the temporary folder. Moved files have a suffix like _OFF_nnnn, where nnnn is the file number.

Let the Logger generate the log file name automatically or specify a fixed file name manually. Automatic names are based on computer or user name followed by the date of log creation. E.g. if your computer name is LAB15 and today is 18-Nov-2003, the file name would be LAB15_11182003.elt.

Auto-naming by user name is recommended for computers used by multiple people and for computers running Windows Terminal Services.

Delimiter-Separated Values is recommended for most cases. This compact text file format is widely used for data exchange between applications. If you are going to read logs by a third-party application, use Settings to set up the most suitable delimiter and file extenstion. E.g. for Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access these would be Comma and .csv

Boss Everyware writes DSV files in write-only mode. This allows to place DSV files on a write-only share or local folder, so users will not be able to read and delete log files. Note that silent e-mailing and "start a new log-file" feature don't work when writing into a write-only location.

Use dBase III+ format if you are going to import Boss Everyware logs into a legacy database application.

Use short file names when you are using a third-party application to analyze Boss Everyware logs.

Encrypted .elt files are written in the Boss Everyware's own format. Use it if you don't like log files to be read by any application other than Boss Everyware Report Manager.

Set here how often to update the log file with newly captured data.
